2024 Events

Marking Period 1

National Custodian Day

Our team distributed 50+handmade and personalized cards to all our school custodians as a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for their hard work and dedication. We wanted to honor these hidden soldiers of our school, whose efforts often go unnoticed but are vital to creating a clean and welcoming environment for everyone.

Blood Drive

We successfully hosted a meaningful blood drive, collecting 30 liters of blood to support those in need and make a tangible difference in our community. The event was a powerful reminder of the impact we can create when coming together for a shared cause.

Marking Period 2

Thanksgiving Food Donation

The recent Thanksgiving food drive, organized in collaboration between the Red Cross Club and the HYPE Club, successfully provided meals for 20 families at Downingtown East and contributed hundreds of pounds of food to the DASD district-wide food drive. This initiative highlighted the power of teamwork and compassion in supporting families in need during the holiday season.

Puppy Drive

Our school community came together to organize a successful puppy drive in support of To Love a Canine, a rescue organization that regularly brings joy to our school with their visits. Through this initiative, we collected over $100 worth of essential items, including cleaning supplies, sheets, puppy pads, leashes, toys, and food, all aimed at supporting the care and comfort of rescued puppies. This effort was a true collaboration, with contributions from NHS, our counseling department, and many generous students and staff. Beyond the donations, the drive celebrated the spirit of giving back and supporting the incredible work of a rescue that makes such a meaningful impact in the lives of these furry friends.

Marking Period 3

Hearts for Heroes

The Hearts for Heroes Initiative was a Valentine’s Day-inspired effort to show appreciation for first responders. In partnership with the Chester County Department of Emergency Services and East Caln Fire Company, community members came together to create heartfelt cards filled with messages of gratitude. These cards were then delivered to local firefighters, paramedics, and emergency personnel as a token of appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices. The initiative successfully fostered a sense of connection between the community and its heroes, reminding them of the support and gratitude they have from those they serve. Through this effort, Valentine’s Day was not only a celebration of love but also a time to honor the bravery and selflessness of first responders.

Fundraising for Fires Initiative
NHS Pitch and $250 Grant

The Fundraising for Fires Initiative was a club-led effort to support communities affected by fire-related emergencies. As part of this initiative, the club secured a $250 grant from the National Honor Society (NHS) to contribute toward fire relief efforts. This funding was used to aid local fire departments and organizations that assist families recovering from fire-related disasters. The grant not only provided direct financial support but also highlighted the importance of community-driven fundraising efforts in times of crisis. By securing this grant, the club demonstrated its commitment to service and its ability to make a tangible impact on those in need.

Desserts for Disaster Relief - Ongoing

In addition to the grant, the club launched the Desserts for Disaster Relief Bake Sale, an ongoing project aimed at raising further funds for fire relief efforts. Club members are organizing the sale of store-bought desserts, with all proceeds going toward assisting those affected by fires. The bake sale has already seen strong support from students and community members eager to contribute to the cause. Beyond fundraising, this initiative serves as an opportunity to spread awareness about fire safety and the importance of supporting first responders. More updates on the bake sale’s progress will be shared as the project continues to grow.

Marking Period 4

Hug-A-Bear Drive

The Red Cross Club at Downingtown East partnered with the Uwchlan Ambulance Corps (UAC) for a Hug-A-Bear Drive, collecting over 50 new teddy bears to donate to children in emergency situations. These bears will be kept in local ambulances to provide comfort and a sense of security to young patients during stressful rides. This initiative was a heartwarming way for students to support their community and bring a little extra care to those who need it most.
